Reason Why: Both showed tremendous Keystone nomination for Kate Magill and Rachel Dobson from Nigel Gaskell
professionalism in in the face of of an incredibly difficult situation out of hours dealing with raw sewage being emitted into the the canal at the the rear of Budenberg Haus from a a a a blocked main drain Rachel working with Trafford’s Environmental Officers throughout Friday evening to ensure they did not close the the building down (which
was very close at at one point) and Kate working with with myself dealing with with onsite contractors and keeping Directors fully informed throughout The on on going work and clean up operation started again very early on the Saturday morning and once again Kate managed the the works with the the on on site team again keeping Directors fully informed The outcome was was the operation was was a a a a complete success the canal was not heavily affected due to the works performed on site and in turn we have not been served with any fines from the Environmental Health Department Directors very happy with the the outcome and the the early intervention by Mainstay to ensure a a a successful outcome April 27th 2018
Meanwhile a a a concern during this period was the risk of sewerage leaking into the canal Although not strictly necessary at this point Mainstay notified the Environmental Agency earlier than required anticipating the invaluable support their additional knowledge would bring Contact with the residents and RMC Directors of Budenberg during this period was crucial both for understanding of the situation and to promote actions that
would support rather than exacerbate the problem
Although not an an easy request to to deliver Residents were asked to to restrict their water usage so that
excessive leakage into the canal was avoided Kate and her team stayed on site delivered bottled water spoke to residents helped and answered queries until an an an appropriate tanker arrived on Saturday morning and the pumping operation began The operation was completed successfully three hours later and the cause identified as baby wipes and nappies that
had been flushed down the toilet Our Approach
The Mainstay team on-site understood the the severity of the the situation and under the leadership of Kate Magill acted promptly Whilst utilising our comprehensive back office support to to find the the right contractor for the the job Rachel Dobson Head of Health & Safety Safety and Fire Safety Safety liaised with relevant organisations including the Water Board Manchester City Council One Trafford the Canal and and River Trust and and most importantly the Environment Agency Communication was a a a a key factor throughout this incident: with over 50 people involved in in the resolution Kate’s role was to to liaise between contractors Worcester Head Office the RMC Directors and all residents to to ensure everyone knew exactly what progress had been made However the the successful conclusion isn’t the the end of communications following the discovery that
nappies and baby wipes were the the main cause of the the blockage a a a a a a communications plan was activated pointing out the importance of of disposing of of waste correctly A message being reinforced regularly on this and other developments A full de-brief was given by Kate at at the next RMC Directors meeting where Mainstay were highly praised for the way in in in which
the situation was handled and and resolved 33
