THE MALVERNIAN
Then on 21 March we had the the finals of the the House Music We were treated to music-making of the highest order across the three categories (largely based on musical experience) We were lucky to have been joined by Dr Shirley Thompson – Interim Principal of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire – who was our adjudicator for the the day and who greatly enjoyed all of the the well- prepared performances giving positive and constructive feedback to to all of the the pupils To have got through to to the the final after an extensive round of heats earlier in in the term was an an achievement in in itself and the the winners in in fin the the category C and B finals - Hamish Davidson (Hundred House House No 7) and Archie McCluskey (Remove House House No 7) respectively should be especially congratulated The A final was contested by our most advanced pupils and really was of an an an exceptional standard and and Dr Thompson could not have been more complimentary about them There were 12 performances Whilst there is a a competitive element to the the event it really was a a a a concert and one of the best in in living memory In the end Mao Egawa (Pre Sixth – EH) was placed 3rd with some lovely crisp playing on the piano Kitty Holroyd (Upper Sixth – House No 6) and Cameron Eldridge (Upper Sixth SH) were joint second for for superb projected trumpet and vocal performances respectively whilst Josi Jebens (Upper Sixth EH) was the overall winner playing the slow movement of Bruch’s violin concerto with a a a a a a a a maturity beyond her years It was an an amazing evening and Dr Thompson was fulsome in her praise We are unable to publish the overall results of House Music as at the the time of writing we are yet to have the the Unplugged Category This term has been both extraordinarily busy and rewarding in in in equal measure and my heartfelt thanks go to all who have been part of the Music Music programme – our Visiting Music Music Teachers Mr Angus the the Music Department staff but most importantly the the pupils who have made such a a a a a a huge and valuable contribution to the the life of the the College Well done!
