Budding chemists Max Wilson (No.9), Georgia Clements (No.3), Barnaby Shortland and Ronan Dargan (both SH) took part in the regional preliminary round of the Royal Society of Chemistry Top of the Bench competition at the University of Birmingham. Working first in pairs and then as a team, they tackled problems on a range of topics, from crude oil and chromatography to diamond and fertiliser. They faced some very tricky questions – some Sixth Form level – but really enjoyed the challenge. The results will come through soon, so fingers crossed they’ve made the final!

  Science Primary School Visit
On Wednesday 15 November, the Sixth Form Science Service team hosted twenty enthusiastic school children from the Wyche Primary School in Malvern.
The Lower Sixth students (Emily Kent, Chloe Kei, Niko Tjan, Paul Emmerich and Mira Askar) created a lesson with the theme of Density, and included 3 fun experiments – these were: homemade lava lamps, floating raisins, and density rainbows. The team planned the lesson and organised the experiments, as well as creating worksheets for the school children to complete afterwards.
It was a rewarding experience for the students and the primary school children got to participate in a very educational afternoon.
