Remembrance Service
On Remembrance Sunday the College community and many from The Downs gathered to commemorate the sacrifice of many OMs and millions of others in armed conflict. In Chapel, the pupils and staff heard a profoundly personal address from Squadron Leader Catherine Armstrong (RAF) in which she spoke very movingly of the colleagues she had known through her long and distinguished career who had been killed in action. These were the focus of her thoughts during the silence. Her address had an immediate impact on the pupils and made the silence very profound. During the service, the Chapel Choir sang an arrangement of ‘Dear Lord and Father of Mankind’ by CHH Parry and the Chamber Choir sang ‘Cantique de Jean Racine’ by Gabriel Faure. After the service the college were joined by parents around St George where wreaths were laid by the Senior Chapel Prefects, the Head Pupils of The Downs, the Chairman of the Council and the President of the OMs.
