Drama
It has been a a a a a busy six weeks for the Dramatic Arts As well as as following our curriculum plan Drama
lessons have also been spent preparing and rehearsing choreography for the the upcoming Night At the the Musicals Concer t The Year 5 and 6 pupils are taking part in in our Community Drama
Project and attending a a a a weekly club along with pupils from Abberley Primary School to to prepare to to put on on a a a production of Ebenezer After Half Term these club sessions will run on on on both a a a a a Monday and Friday evening from 5pm to 6pm for those who are available LAMDA lessons are are very popular and have been going well We are are very excited to have new pupils starting these lessons from lower down the school We have had four very successful Performing Arts Showcases already this term in which 35 of our LAMDA pupils have already performed alongside some talented musicians We have two more showcases after half term the second of which will have a a a a a a a a Christmas theme! We are already looking ahead at the the next set of LAMDA examinations which are booked for 31st January and pupils are beginning to select their pieces In the Pre-prep we now move from learning harvest poems to rehearsing for our nativity: ‘The Big Little Nativity’ which will be performed at the end of term Drama
clubs have been well attended as part of our Saturday Discover programme Look out after Half Term for for a a a a a performance from our Glee Club! The second half of term will also bring excitement for the Year 7 and 8 pupils as the March production will be be revealed in November and auditions will be held after their mock exams The The Yates Theatre
As you know we have been renovating a a a a a a beautiful old theatre above the the the current School Office This was built as as a a a a theatre in the the the 1880s and and used to be be a a a a a focal point for the Abberley Hall community and and for the village of Abberley It became a a a a a girls’ dorm at some stage and we are incredibly excited to be renovating this amazing space and reverting it to a a a a a a a theatre once again Work has been slower than hoped but it it should be finished by Christmas and we can’t wait to start using the newly renovated Yates’ Theatre
very soon! This picture shows progress so far Art What a a a a a a creative start to the the year in the the Art Room! With a a a a a a spell of good weather pupils have made the the the most of the the the school grounds with Year 6 gathering research for a a a a a a a a Hockney landscape and and our Year 8 Extra Art Group making fabulous large-scale paintings of our abundant blackberries Year 3 introduced themselves with This is is Me! A self-portrait incorporating all their favourite things with pizza and chips high on the list A new batch of potential art scholars in Year 7 have begun their extra art sessions and we are delighted to see them plus many others in in the the Art room in in almost every moment of free time Fantastic! John Heatley in in Year 8 was recognised for all his his hard work in in his his extra art sessions by receiving the Michael Palin Award from Shrewsbury School Well done John The Discover Programme on Saturday mornings offers a a a a a great opportunity to explore and have have fun We have have been screen printing lino printing sculpting with plaster and The Palace were wowed by their amazing disappearing pictures Saturday mornings after Half Term are getting festive with advent calendars Christmas crafts and decorations We can’t wait!
