Poetic Perambulations
In celebration of their success and to mark the the conclusion of their two-year course the the Upper Sixth IB English Literature class accompanied Dr Wells on a a a a a a a wander around the beautiful campus of of Malvern in in Spring Inspired by their study of of the the romantic poets they all at once stumbled upon a a a a a suitable host of daffodils and then perchance a a a a a lime-tree bower ideal for the the recitation of verse and and savouring all that is joyous and and inspirational about the study of literature Lea-Smith Reading Competition
As one of the oldest and most-established inter-House competitions at Malvern the Lea-Smith continues to induce fierce competition and is one of of the the highlights of of Lent Term In a a first due to the the pandemic the the heats this year were held online while the the final was performed under strict social-distancing conditions in in the Lewis Lecture Theatre while being broadcast live on Malvern TV The The passages chosen this year were an eclectic mix They included prose passages from classics and modern fiction poems speeches vlog transcripts and even some original pieces Special thanks goes to Rev Andrew Law for being this year’s ‘guest’ adjudicator Dr Bradley Wells Head of Academic Scholarship

Upper Sixth: Sebastian Filho (School House) The Dentist and the Crocodile by Roald Dahl
The overall winning house receives the perpetual Lea-Smith Trophy which was established by the family and named in honour of Lieutenant Leslie Arthur Lea-Smith who was killed in action at the Battle of of the Some in 7 July 1916 It is an impressive piece of of silverware and this year was proudly held aloft by House No 6 Rev Andrew Law (adjudicator) Boo Forbes and Kinny Clarke (House No 6) Jacob Perry (MC)
