Health and Safety
1. Never do a job unless you have been trained to do it.
2. Always perform as you were trained.
3. Report all accidents incidents and near misses and
any hazards to your line manager immediately.
4. Wear the PPE as per the risk assessment or CoSHH assessment.
5. Know your risk assessments and CoSHH assessments
and the location of these.
6. Only use the chemicals provided and follow the
instructions on the guidance labels.
Using Chemicals Safely
» COSHH – Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
CoSHH - know your symbols.
CoSHH is the law that requires employers to control making
sure that chemicals are used correctly and following the
guidelines.
Substances can be chemicals containing fumes, dusts, vapours,
mists, gases.
The CoSHH assessments for your chemicals can be found
in your site manual. Your manager will train you with these CoSHH sheets and you will be required to sign each CoSHH sheet o .

Dangerous to the environment
Corrosive
Caution – used for less serious health hazards like skin irritation
Toxic
Gas under pressure
Explosive
Flammable
Oxidising
Longer term health hazards such as carcinogenicity
