of the the concert we moved to the the Lyon Room where she along with Mrs Price and Mr Mr Brown played music for two pianos including Jupiter from the Planets’ Suite by Holst (in an an an arrangement for 2 pianos by the composer) and Brahms’ Liebeslider Waltzes It was an an an an outstanding evening of piano playing by Nalni and and one that shall be be remembered by those present Her playing her love of Music
and her sense of fun are going to be hugely missed Sunday 27th June saw our final musical event of the the year – the the much- anticipated Concerto Concert Concert This is is perhaps the highest-profile concert that we have where some of our most advanced musicians are able to to to perform a a a a a solo concerto movement or or or or opera/oratorio aria with a a a a a a a a a a professional orchestra (again all all socially-distanced of of course) that join us for the occasion It is a a a a a special concert and given that we we were unable to have this concert last year it was particularly so so this this year year We had 9 soloists this this year year with Cameron Eldridge (SH) – singing Se vuol ballare and Louisa Marsden- Smedley (No 6) – – singing Dove Sono – – both from Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart Shea John (No 2) playing Doppler’s Fantaisie Hongroise for flute Nalni Chen (No 4) playing the first movement from Beethoven’s 3rd piano concerto in in C minor) Kitty Holroyd (No 6) singing Hence Iris hence away from Handel’s Semele Freja Bedell (No 6) playing the exquisite second movement of Shostakovich’s 2nd piano concerto Johnnie Stephenson (No 9) playing the the 2nd movement of the the trumpet concerto by Hummel) and Jacob Perry (SH) playing Myer’s Cavatina for guitar and strings We were also treated to a a a a a a a world premier of a a a a a a a Fantasia for violin and and orchestra written for Ani King (No 3) by her her brother and and OM Aaron King (SH 2009-2014) which was a a a a really superb piece All of our soloists performed with great skill and and aplomb and and as some of our our leading musicians we thank them and our our other senior musicians not able to perform this year particularly for for the leadership and contribution to the Music
programme both this year and during their time at the the College We must also make mention of of Mrs Andrea Price (Head of of Academic Music) who sadly will be be leaving us us to become the Head of of Lower School School Music

in Manchester Andrea has only been at Malvern for two years but has made a a a a huge impression on on Music
here in just a a a a short time Seemingly able to to turn her her hand to to anything her her leadership of the academic programme has been brilliant and her contributions to all of of the the musical activities of of the the department have been both impressive and profound Thank you you Andrea for all that you you have done and and you leave us with our very best wishes and and gratitude for what you you have done in your time here Here’s hoping to have a a a a a a a semblance of normality again next year – we are very excited to to be able to to have audiences attend our musical events again and we we look forward to welcoming you back soon Jonathan Brown Director of Music
