THE MALVERNIAN
Lost 2022
On 19 May 2022 two remove pupils from each of the eleven boarding houses began a race with one goal: get back to the college before everyone else without breaking rules, such as: no asking for a lift, no travelling in a vehicle for longer than 6 miles and no spending money unless you want to be rooted to the spot at a rate of 1hr per £1. Equipped with freeze-dried food, sleeping bags and a tent, each team was dropped off at a different location within a 50km radius of Malvern College. Stratford, Hay on Wye and Monmouth were among these locations. By 8pm everyone was in position and their blindfolds were removed. What unfolded next was a series of amusing events for the participants and the spectators who were tracking the teams’ locations. That Thursday evening the participants had only two hours to get closer to the College because at 10pm they had to stop and make camp regardless of where they were. This meant that some teams slept in a muddy fields whilst others slept in gardens and were offered free pizza, tea and chips. At 6am they were off again and the teams made their way back towards the College using trains, buses, cars and any other vehicle they could. Houses No.6, No.8, No.9 and No.1 were all hot on each other’s heels; however, congratulations are in order for House No.9 (represented by Angus Howat and Oliver Hutton) who took the win at 9:51am on 20 May 2022 when they arrived at the College just 13 minutes off the all-time record. They were then closely followed by House No.8, House No.1 and House No.6 with a mere 8 minutes separating 1st and 4th place. Overall, it was a fantastic event which is here to stay.
