THE COLLEGE RULES ON BICYCLES ARE AS FOLLOWS
(i) Pupils wishing to ride any bicycle must have the permission of their parents, on the official form, and the permission of their Housemaster/Housemistress.
(ii) Helmets must be worn.
(iii) Bicycles are to be kept in the allotted places.
(iv) The owner’s name and House must be painted on or securely attached to the framework. The mechanical condition and security of a bicycle is the responsibility of the owner and parents.
(v) Bicycles may not be used Up-Town except when passing through on Community Service. They may not be ridden to the Playing Fields.
(vi) All pupils bicycling must know and observe the Highway Code. Attention is drawn to the regulation forbidding cyclists to ride more than two abreast.
(vii) Pupils may not cycle or scoot anywhere within the College grounds, nor in College Road or Abbey Road, between the main building and Ellerslie House nor in Thirlstane and Woodshears Roads above the railway bridges.
(viii) Insurance of bicycles is the responsibility of parents. The College insurance does not cover personal effects, but the optional Pupils’ Personal Effects insurance specifically excludes bicycles. Most household policies can include bicycles, but parents are advised to inform their brokers that the bicycle will be taken to school.
