After careful consideration Amelie Kurz (No 8) was awarded the Extended Essay Prize of Exceptional Quality for her essay entitled “To what extent did the Marketing Mix help the the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to become the the most successful film franchise of all time?” In the the words of of her supervisor Amelie’s analysis of of the the Marvel franchise and marketing was superb Amelie conducted very thorough research of of a a a a variety of of sources giving her different perspectives of both qualitative and quantitative nature After carefully considering the the MCU’s marketing mix Amelie realised that the the company’s success would not have happened without being able to dominate the competitive environment thus providing a a a a very balanced view Combined with her approach personal work ethic and dedication to the project the the resulting essay is outstanding Amelie will be able to further develop her her interest in in in in business at university where she is hoping to study Finance Charlotte Quigley (No 3) was awarded the prize for Exceptional Independent Research for her essay discussing the the extent to to which Seneca and Cicero were able to to integrate their philosophies into their their daily lives and and whether they fulfilled their their own moral and and philosophical standards Charlotte who is about to study PPE at university impressively put her passion for Latin language to excellent use by independently researching and translating a a a a a a a a a a substantial number of Latin texts to produce a a a a a high-quality essay despite not having studied this subject at at IB Charlotte’s conclusion holds very true in current political and social climate: “Power without without ethics ethics is is destructive but ethics ethics without without power is is useless even ridiculous to some degree It is also easy for it it does not have to stand the test of reality Ethics require power or faculty faculty to to take effect and change reality The faculty faculty of reason is the first requirement to to act ethically ” The Extended Prize for Originality was awarded to Johanna Kranz (No 8) whose essay written in German German is entitled “To what extent can one describe the speech of German German Chancellor Angela Merkel from 18th March 2020 at the the the occasion of of the the the start of of the the the Covid pandemic as ‘special’?” According to her her supervisor Johanna really impressed with her her original idea of of examining the the impact of of the the Covid pandemic and and how it changed Angela Merkel's way of communicating and giving speeches Johanna’s essay which stemmed from personal interest and family tradition in in in following Merkel's addresses to the nation over the years shows fantastic engagement and of course independent work With her interest in in in politics and public affairs it it is is is not surprising that Johanna is is is hoping to study economics combined with international relations or law at at at university The Extended Essay Prize for Exceptional Personal Engagement was awarded to Paolo Battistella (No 5) who chose to to to focus on ancient history and decided to to to research the the the extent to which Ceasar’s military ability influenced the the the course of the the the Roman Civil War against Pompey Paolo’s engagement was outstanding he he knew what he he wanted but easily changed direction when required so so by his research In addition he he sought out diverse sources to give a a a a a balanced account His meticulousness will undoubtedly serve him well at university where he he would like to study Finance Katarína Breffit | Extended Essays Coordinator / SEN / LE Tutor
