THE MALVERNIAN
Magic of Science
On Tuesday the 27 June Malvern College invited Year 6 pupils from several prep and primary schools to participate in a a a a a a a day full of fun science activities The day started with some demonstrations carried out by Nick Barker from the University of Warwick These experiments included colour changing solutions elephant’s toothpaste and many other chemical experiments which grabbed the the imaginations of the Year 6 audience After the the demonstrations the the pupils went to to our laboratories to carry out a a a a a different practical in each science In Physics the objective was to to understand the mechanics of a a a a a bubble and and try to to make the the bubbles that they created to last as as as long as as as possible The pupils considered the different variables and alternative means of creating the the bubbles to make them last as as long as possible After having made the bubbles themselves they watched and later took part in some other experiments which included having a a bubble being made around you In Chemistry the pupils carried out five different experiments which involved knowledge of pH with indicators and neutralization reactions and many others The pupils developed many practical skills Every so often the pupils were reminded of the safety regulations needed in a a a a laboratory They were able to to execute their experiments as best they could and they compared their results with each other for the the best possible outcome In Biology the the pupils explored the the five senses of a a human being After a a a a a quick explanation of their functions and what they did in the the the body they headed off to the the the five stations we had set up for each sense Many of the experiments included identifying objects while not having access to other senses which expanded their understanding of uses for the senses We would like to to say a a a a a sincere thank you to to all the prep and primary schools that attended to Nick Barker for his amazing demonstrations and to our incredible technicians for all their hard work We cannot forget Dr Watson our Head of Science
