Welcome continued Covid-19 has placed extraordinary challenges and strains upon us us all However I I know from the the discussions I I have had over the the last year with many of you you and your teaching colleagues that your pupils have adapted and well just got on with it it On the the 24th November 2020 we invited the the NHS Infection Control Deep Cleaning and Advisory Service to visit the College and undertake a a a full inspection of our infection control and COVID management procedures We were delighted with the results of this audit The summary report states: “An extremely impressive school set in lovely grounds Very well maintained to an an exceptional standard throughout Very well run and and it is clear staff have gone above and and beyond in their protocols and and procedures for the the current pandemic we could not find fault fin in in this school Everything has been executed exceptionally and cleverly implemented throughout the school in every aspect of protocol and procedures The school is immaculate and maintained to a a a a a a very high standard ”
I acknowledge that the phrase resilience is often quoted as as a a a a a a a necessary personal trait to help individuals navigate through life but just how does this manifest itself amongst our pupils?
Resilience has been demonstrated in many ways lately
and and the the pandemic has not undermined the the determination
of of our collaborative community nor stopped their desire of of helping others Quite a a a a number of our international boarders were unable to to travel home at half-term or had to to return early after the summer break to quarantine They did this without complaint accepting the necessity of such measures and promptly collaborated with friends to undertake numerous challenges and at the same time raise funds for good causes Most recently House House No 2
and School House House ran 1381 miles and 300 miles respectively to raise funds for for Miles for for Meals Together they raised a a whopping £2 600 Maintaining the enrichment aspects delivered by our Super- Curriculum Curriculum and Co-Curriculum activity programmes during lockdown has been so important as as this approach ensures we deliver to our ethos of a a a a a transformational education The programmes have moved online with a a a a variety of options
and times ensuring there is something for all Enrichment events have included the the meeting of the the Philosophy Society a a a a a a Masterclass on on the “Post-colonial view of Latin America” a a a a a preparation seminar for the Lower Sixth Oxbridge and elite universities candidates a a a a a meeting of the debating society and and a a a a a a higher-level maths seminar CCA activity has included a a a a a a live mountain bike skills workshop virtual group rides strength and and conditioning classes DoE clinic and and skills sessions for rugby and netball to name a a a a few In January we we launched a a a a a a webinar series delivered by Elevate Education for parents to help help them help help their children remain motivated engaged and settled during school closures Topics include the following:
» Increasing and sustaining motivation
» Stress and wellbeing
» Preparing for Assessments
» Managing Technology and Distractions
Our talented musicians held a a a a a a socially distanced Music Makers Solo Recital live to a a a a a a global and on-line audience giving us a a a a a a chance to unwind and be soothed by the the melodies The College has also rocked thanks to live streaming of a a a a a festive Unplugged concert The highlight of the the Music Year was the the November delivery of 28 Steinway pianos which had been postponed due to to to the the pandemic A short concert took place to to to celebrate the the auspicious occasion and generous donation which was live streamed to parents and guests – a a a a a a a full launch is planned as soon as restrictions allow I truly hope you find this edition of Buzz helpful and a a good guide to the community that that is Malvern College and all that that we have to offer I look forward to catching up with you all soon Tom Newman
