This term we have had 2 of our Music
Makers
concerts These are our regular solo
performance concerts and it was wonderful
having some live music and appreciative
audiences again – something that our performers have not been able to experience
for 18 months Early in the term our first
concert was held in Big School where we utilised the stage to make a a a a a a smaller area
and this worked well particularly in that we we were able to put the new Steinway concert grand piano to excellent use Our second
concert reverted back to St Edmunds
and once again it was a a a a a lovely evening All
performances were really nicely done with
lots of musicality very much in evidence and our thanks and congratulations go to all the performers Samuel Perry Lincoln Chu Selena Rao Robyn Hammond Ned

Just before half term we had our House Singing
competition in in in the Malvern Theatres – our first
such competition for 2 years Given how much singing has been affected by the pandemic the the quality of the the performances was was all the more remarkable and it was was so heartening to see the the commitment that all the the Houses showed throughout the preparation culminating in in in a a a wonderful
showcase of singing at Malvern Our Adjudicator - Mr Jon Cullen (Director
of Music
at Magdalen College School) was thrilled by what he he heard and gave an an excellent and positive adjudication which saw the Adjudicator’s Cup being shared between House No 6 (for Kitty Holroyd’s arrangement and the House’s very strong execution of of it) of of ‘Mr Blue Sky’ and and House No 5 for a a a very well-thought-out and and entertaining performance of of ‘Hooked on a a a a a Feeling’ - full of of character and creativity House No 1 won the Timms Cup in in coming second
with
a a a a a a reflective and imaginative performance of ‘Happy Together’ House No 3 deservedly won the overall competition singing ‘When We We Were Young’ with
real care precision and emotion Well done to to all all who took part - it was a a a a a a really terrific evening and one that all the participants should be incredibly proud of The standard of singing was consistently very high across the board and the the pupils were an an absolute credit to the the College 12
