A Steinway Recital for St St Cecilia Wayne Marshall OBE
We had the the great fortune to to welcome Wayne Marshall to to the the College to give the the first recital on on on the the concert grand on on on November 22nd (St Cecilia’s Day – she being the patron Saint of Music
which seemed an an appropriate day to host it) Wayne is a a a a a a a a phenomenal musician who is is is a a a a a a a a Steinway Artist and and in in in addition is is is also hugely in in in demand as a a a a a a a a conductor and organist He began with
with
Debussy’s Children’s Corner and followed this with
with
improvising on Music
by Gershwin including Porgy and Bess as well as some less well-known songs Improvising and Gershwin are his great loves and these were
the the main pillars of his hour-long recital and we we were
left in in in no doubt just how amazing his improvising is is is -
and and also his feel for Gershwin – and and the audience was totally bowled over! He even had a a a request slot at the the end where members of the the audience gave him him a a a a a tune and a a a a a style for him him to improvise on Nelly the Elephant as a a a a a a a a Fugue and Jerusalem in a a a a a a a a Bossa Nova style were
just two of the requests His talent is is absolutely extraordinary and we were
so lucky to have him come and perform Caroline Buchanan
