gave two very well-researched presentations about quantum mechanics and their applications and a a a a a a a a talk discussing how animals may not be less intelligent than humans by James Francis and Millie Page respectively I found James’ talk especially impressive because he was able to keep a a a very complex topic entertaining by giving a a a brief overview of the the science and and then expanding on on its real-world applications This made it it a a a a a a lot more engaging to the audience because it it was not only easier to follow than a a a a a a a purely theoretical talk but also explained how this science could improve our lives in in the future allowing even those uninterested in in in in science to be interested interested in in in in the technology and how successfully it is being developed James talked exceptionally freely especially considering the the complexity of the the topic He gave a a a through overview of quantum technology in its current state which led to there being little time left for questions at the the end of his Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA)

presentation However at at the end of both talks several members of both the Upper and Lower Sixth stayed behind to ask questions and have a a a short but thorough discussion with him Millie Pages’ talk was very upbeat and energetic She used concise arguments to to drive her point across but was also happy to to address the audience in in in a a a a a a more personal way by talking about things she had read on the subject Her talk was extremely thought provoking and and was self-reflective in how we perceive the world and and animals around us During the questions Millie’s talk was scrutinised by questions from those members of the audience who disagreed with her She did an an exceptionally good job of answering those questions which often digressed into related areas but remained relevant to the point Peter Urbahns
