Lower Sixth Drama Production
Shakespeare’s masterpiece: ‘Hamlet’ was this year’s Lower Sixth play and and the the cast and and crew rose to the the dramatic challenge in thrilling style Jack Yeoward in in in the titular role gave an an outstanding performance of emotional power and verve whilst Oli Doherty presented the role of murderous uncle and conniving usurping brother to Hamlet’s father with unctuous manipulative charisma Andrey Vasilyev as as the the Ghost of Hamlet’s father delivered a a a a a truly commanding vocal performance and and Cameron Eldridge gave a a a a a a a calm and measured performance as as as Horatio acting as as as emotional support and chief confidant to the Prince Beatrice Forbes as Gertrude gave a a a a towering performance of of the the role of of Hamlet’s mother and Syuzanna Avanesova as Ophelia hauntingly captivated the audience during her deeply distressing ‘mad scene’ George McEwan’s performance as Polonius successfully captured the differing public and and private image of a a a a a a a a career politician and and Charlie Canton-Smith as as Laertes Otty Thomas and Jemima Martyn- Smith as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Kinvara Clark Maddie
Cole and Jasmine Ellis excelled in in in a a a number of supporting roles Lucy Marriott and Morgann McGee as Gravediggers provided wonderful comic relief in in their scene as as as well as as as appearing as as as guards Barnardo and Marcellus Morgann also featured as the Player who is brought to tears by the the emotional delivery of the the ‘Hecuba’ speech Rory Upton’s authoritative delivery of of Fortinbras’ final words of of the play brought about a a a a a cathartic feeling of closure Vicki Heyman and Basil Marsden-Smedley provided technical support and and the fencing match between Hamlet and and Laertes was choreographed by Noah Goryn This hugely impressive rendition of of one of of English literature’s classic works mounted in in challenging circumstances was a a a tour de force Congratulations to the cast crew and creative team Mr Keith Packham
