Reception
Children have become young independent writers this term Weekly diaries cards letters lists caption writing and retelling stories have featured each day World Book Day inspired great writing as as well as as wonderful costumes of favourite book characters The children have continued to to learn a a a a a a a a new phoneme each day and are all keen to to apply these skills reading their own books with increasing fluency In Maths the children have been excited to to record number bonds up to to 10
writing their own addition and subtraction number stories Through many practical activities the the children have explored the the concepts of weight height time and capacity Significant calendar events have been marked such as Valentines Day Day Pancake Day Day and Mother’s Day as as well as as Mental Health Week and an an awareness of eco matters In the the months of January and February the the children studied deciduous and evergreen trees With the arrival of Spring snowdrops crocuses and and daffodils have been spotted and and created in a a a a a a a range of of media and they adorn the the Reception
class walls A great deal of of excitement and fun was enjoyed when Reception
performed in the musical and swimming showcases during the last two weeks of term Five brave pianists played for the first time in front of an an audience and and impressed us all whilst front and and back swimming skills were demonstrated by all in in the pool The arrival of some Spring lambs in school as as as well as as as an an Easter egg hunt completed a a a a a a a happy and fun term Year 1 Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed their Brilliant Buildings topic this term They have looked at at maps of the the school grounds and located the the different buildings producing their own colour coded key In Science they they have explored materials and how they they are used in structures around the the school A A visit and tour of the the Abberley Clock Tower with local historian Jo Roche culminated in in in them producing some wonderful leaflets full of fascinating facts To end their topic we visited Warwick Castle and had a a a a a a a a a wonderful day out walking the ramparts examining artefacts visiting the Time Tower and of course having fun on
the the the the adventure playground For Mother’s Day the the the the children used their DT skills to make cards with moving parts – fluttering butterflies were appreciated by all mums!
Year 2
Children have been busy on
their topic Toys and Forces They had a a a a fantastic day out in in Stratford at at the Mechanical Toy Museum building giant marble runs and looking at the the cams on
the the moving toys before coming back to to to school to to to build their own mechanical toys and wheeled vehicles They also visited the Butterfly Farm and learned more about life cycles Back in school the children have written beautiful descriptions of of their own special soft toys and have written amazing storybooks sending their toys on
adventures
