 MUSIC
     Unit 1: Understanding Music
Students will develop their analytical ability and breadth of musical vocabulary in response to audio and visual excerpts of music. The music covered will be broad in genre.
Unit 2: Composing Music
Students will focus on the development rather than synthesis of original material, as sophisticated development rather than repetition is one of the key differences between success at GCSE and A Level / IB. Students will be asked to compose an autobiographical melody (based on letters in their names) for an instrument they have at home (acoustic or synthesised).
Unit 3: Performing Music
Students will be encouraged
to keep progressing in their individual instrumental/vocal studies and be introduced to the higher expectations of an A Level/ IB performer. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the different approaches needed when recording audio rather than performing to a live audience.
