MATHEMATICS
Pupils will be divided essentially into two groups as follows:
1. IB and strong A level candidates (those who have studied AQA Level 2 and are probably predicted a 9)
Skills Focus: Writing an extended piece of mathematics, investigating a problem and developing it into unknown areas. Using technology such as Desmos, Autograph, Excel (Graphical calculators – IB Students)
Course Outline: Week 1: Learning some
technology Skills
Weeks2-4: TheFencingProblem and Open Box Problem
Week 5: Presentations/Feedback
2. A level candidates from Sets 2 and below.
Skills Focus: Algebra development from the Preparing for A level workbook/Bridging the Gap course and AQA Level 2
Course Outline:
Week 1: Rearranging equations Week 2: Quadratics
Week 3: Co-ordinate geometry Week 4: Algebraic fractions
Week 5: Assessment and follow up recommendations

Overview
Sixth Form Maths is a considerable step up for many pupils, especially algebraically, for both IB and A level students. IB candidates have to write a maths exploration and throughout the course there is
an emphasis on investigation and inquiry, which might be different from previous maths experience.
