Emotional Health
Excellent pastoral care is the foundation for all that we do at at at Abberley Hall We believe that if children are happy and secure in the knowledge that they are are valued cared for and respected then amazing things will happen in the the classroom and far beyond it We have all read about the the damaging impact of of school closures on the mental health of of young people and so it is more important than ever ever that we do everything we we can to to encourage children to to talk about their feelings and that we we do everything possible to give children time time away from screens time time outside with nature time to to to exercise to to to eat well sleep and to to to have fun At the start of February we took part in Children’s Mental Health
Week As well as a a a a a a a a a focus on all of us us doing what we we can to maintain good emotional health it it was an an opportunity to show support and raise money for the excellent charity Place2Be The week started with a a a a Headmaster’s Assembly where children were encouraged to to try to to follow the PERMA model of wellbeing developed by Martin Seligman To see the assembly click here Our Dress to Express event was was particularly memorable as as as was was a a a a a a a talk given to us us by former pupil Henry Henry Carpenter Henry Henry inspired us us with his story of resilience and and determination and and explained how he is is raising money for the the Midlands Air Ambulance Service after they rescued him last year As a a small gesture to brighten things up and introduce another small spark
of fun we introduced Funky-Sock-
Friday earlier in the term and I am delighted to see that children and staff
have made such an effort to take part This new tradition is is one that we we would like to keep so please wear your brightest and funkiest socks on Fridays from this day day forth!
