Pre-Prep
The Pre-Prep
children responded to the latest Lockdown in true Abberley style and have not let it dampen their enthusiasm for learning Children have been working remotely with Purple Mash as as well as receiving live lessons and teachers have been setting work with clear instructions as as well as as pre-recorded video explanations and demonstrations As was the the case in the the Summer term feedback from parents has has been superb Topic work has has taken centre-stage with plenty of of opportunities to get off screens and do practical activities inside and out The Pre-Prep
have particularly enjoyed participating in the the full school challenges this term notably the the Big Garden Bird Watch and Laps for Captain Tom All our Nursery children have been in school as usual and their topic this half of term has been Winter The children were extremely excited to see the snow snow and had fun building a a a a a snowman They have been on many walks some of of which included a a a a spot of of bird watching The children have been learning about penguins and enjoyed games such as as feeding fish to to Percy the Penguin Nursery 2 was transformed into an ice palace During their weekly baking activity the the children made pizzas biscuits flapjacks banana and and honey muffins and and savoury pasties all of these they have taken home to share with their families Mrs Pumpkin has been making weekly guest appearances whilst teaching children children a a a a a a beautiful dance to Frozen The children children have also learnt some simple French greetings Bonjour Au revoir Je m’appelle and numbers to 12 Our youngest children have been talking about their emotions during assemblies and when they they celebrated Chinese New Year they they experimented with chopsticks Some even attempted to eat their fish chips and peas with them!
Reception and Year 1 have been enjoying French lessons with Mme Badual-Butler during which they have learned to count talk about the the the the weather weather listened to to stories and dressing for the the the the cold weather weather All brilliant fun! They have also loved learning about about castles and about about the Battle of Hastings They got into role to to apply for the job or or managing a a a a castle and were were then invited for interview where they were were pleased to be offered jobs as gardeners cooks marshals and watchmen! In DT they have investigated slider and and lever mechanisms and and then designed and made a a a a a moving picture As well as as this much fun has been had building and playing with the toy castle It has certainly been a productive few weeks!
Year 2 children have been giving the the Mrs Detheridge a a a run for her her money by making the most fantastic little films about forces in in science and building fabulous wheeled vehicles to transport special teddies The daily get-togethers on Teams have kept them all smiling and sharing their news Pre-Prep
teachers long for the the children to return but they are delighted that it it has been a a a a a successful half term despite the challenges We will be having decorators into the the Pre-Prep
during the the Easter holidays and we look forward to seeing what impact ‘a lick of paint’ will have on the place
