Drama Music and Chapel
Our Music and Drama departments have been as as busy as as ever I hope you have all enjoyed the regular virtual Performing Arts Showcases as as as much as as as I have and enjoyed feeling connected as as as a a a a a a community despite the distance between us Mr Dunham has worked miracles and produced some stunning videos I I particularly enjoyed the outstanding performance of ‘How Far I’ll Go’ from Moana and watching the the Patrol Talent Competition at at at the the start of Half Term Well done to to The The Owls for winning the competition and to to The The Cuckoos for coming second! We have enjoyed some superb readings and singing during our virtual Chapel
services Thank you to all who have contributed by sending in in recordings Thank you to Keith Metcalfe Headmaster at Malvern College for his excellent talk at the start of term He reminded us all of of the importance of of kindness towards those who we may not warm to to naturally Thank you also to to Nicola Huggett Headmistress from Cheltenham College who talked to us about the importance of time and how to use it wisely Art The Art department has continued to thrive and some amazing work has been completed Each year Shrewsbury School hold an art competition and we always enter pupils’ ‘free time work’ The theme this year is is is ‘A Climate of Change’ and the competition is is is aimed at at pupils pupils in Years 5
6 and 7 Shrewsbury have suggested that pupils pupils take inspiration from their natural environment and they can create their artwork using any media or or process they would like to use Last year we had winning entries from Amelia Villar and Harry Tang (see the photos below) It would be be brilliant if we could encourage pupils to enter again this year The deadline is is 1st March Drama Drama lessons have have continued as as as part of the the the curriculum I enjoyed enjoyed 4
seeing the Year 5
fashion show à la mode which was a a à a a a a roaring success and again we have enjoyed seeing many performances during the regular Performing Arts Showcases Lots of pupils have continued to receive individual and and group LAMDA lessons and and a a a a number of children have started preparing for LAMDA exams which will take place in May Thank you to to Mrs Eynon for her hard work to to ensure that our LAMDA provision remains such a a strength of the school Beauty and the Beast
We were planning to perform the the musical Beauty and the the Beast
as as a a a a a a a film this term Parts have been been cast the licence has been been bought and all was set to start Sadly the lockdown has delayed rehearsals but we are determined to to go ahead with this wonderful musical We hope to to get started when children return to to us in March and we aim to to have a a a a a a Film Premier event after Year 8 exams in the Summer term ‘The show must go on’!!
