Welcome to Transporter Talk 195
What a whirlwind last 2 months! The team have really been working hard with event planning, the AGM, upcoming events and discussing how to make things run smoother (in other words less work for the volunteers!).
The AGM was brilliant fun – read about it in Helen’s write up in the events section. The quiz went down well and the winning team was “Lottie’s Lot” followed closely by “Norfolk & Chance”. Special mention to “Captain Mainwaring’s Platoon” who fielded a smaller team with a combined age less than some of the attending members! Well done to them! The team that called themselves “The Winners” were asking for trouble before they started and did not finish first.
Following the AGM, a feedback form went out to the attendees. The burgers were loved by all but 1 respondent who said they were a bit thin, and we should get a better one. The quiz was enjoyed by all but 1 respondent who “would prefer questions rounds of around 10 questions & maybe not specifically 80’s”. Not sure where they went, but all rounds were 10 questions and only round 1 was the 80s. But my favourite
piece of feedback was “Warmer evenings would have been good”. I’ll check if we can book warm evenings for next year.
We also added up the approximate volunteer times across the year– Membership 200 hours, Events Management 150 hours, Editor 90 hours, Website 40 hours. This excludes the events themselves and the countless hours discussing next steps. With Lorna stepping down from Events Manager, we plan to split the role into regions so that 1 person is not doing all of the work. With Val stepping back from day-to-day membership, we plan to move to a new system to automate as much as possible to save Noel significant amounts of time.
I also took Lorna, Poppy and Pepsi to the Isle of Islay to the whisky festival. Lots of moisture fell from the sky and quite a bit into my glass. Hic. Poppy was a star until a fan belt shredded on the M6, which was a bit hairy changing that on the hard shoulder!
