Sporting Highlights
Sport at Malvern has had an impressive start to this academic year on many levels with almost 60% of our community already having represented the College across 12 sports and over 240 competitive fixtures Our Girls’ hockey sides came out on the the right side side across the the block in in in fixtures against Bloxham and Bromsgrove in in in the early part of term In addition both our U16 boys and U18 girls qualified for the the to both our U16 boys & U18 girls qualifying for the the Regional Indoor Finals and the the U16 girls reached Round 4 of the the National Tier 1 1 outdoor competition Our 1st XI captain Lily Hutton has been playing National League hockey already and many of our pupils have achieved great successes in in their selection into various hockey performance pathways The rugby season started in early August with six of our senior boys representing academies at at the RFU festivals hosted at at Malvern The Border Shield continues to grow in in popularity with the crowd reaching an estimated 1500+ to witness the shield sadly heading to back our our neighbours this year Earlier in the the day the the ‘Lunch with a a a Legend’ returned in in the form form of former international referee Nigel Owens our guest guest speaker who attracted 190 guests whilst 240 boys participated in the U11 & U12 festival outside We currently have 15 boys involved with RFU academy set-ups including 1st XV Rugby captain Frank Jefferies who has recently
been awarded England Academy Player status This is is the highest accolade that can be be awarded at at U18 level other than being capped and we are very proud of his achievements It has also been a a a a a very busy term for our netball teams with the U18 U16 & U14 teams already in action with District County rounds and Cup games The girls have some solid wins in in the bag and are looking forward to building upon their success when the the full season starts in January Our football programme has continued to grow over the Autumn with competitive fixtures for both our boys and girls programmes The Boys’ 1st XI football team secured a a a a a place in in the the last 16 of the the ISFA National Shield to be played in in January following a a a a a a comprehensive win win at at Cathedral School Llandaff Anthony Selvadoray has been invited to train with semi-professional Worcester City Reserves after we hosted them for a friendly Congratulations to all our pupils who have worked so hard on on on their performance during this last term We are extremely proud of everyone who puts on on the the Malvern colours to represent their school and extremely grateful for all the staff who make it possible Lee Hilton | Director of Sport 24 THE MALVERNIAN
