This has been a a a a a a particularly busy term for Malvern rackets We have have been lucky enough to have have Old Malvernian Mark Hubbard (SH ’87-’92) on board Together we have encouraged more and more boys in in to play this most amazing of games There has been a a a a a rapid influx of girls playing too Amongst the regulars are Alice Sclater and Freya Newman who have taken to the game very quickly and will look to represent the school next Easter at Queen’s The new FY boys have also proved that they can play to a a a a very good level The likes of Ed Taylor Hugo Hardinges and Ed Queen have have shown real promise but latterly there have have been many newcomers who will in time challenge for their places The strongest of of pairs are the Colts pairing of of Sam Clements (SH) and Flynn Gunston (No 1) who have had a a a a very successful season beating Harrow 3-1 away from home and Clifton 3-0 here at Malvern against a a a a a a a very good pair Flynn is seeded 2 and Sam Clements 7 in in the upcoming National Schools tournament held at at Queen’s at at the the end of term We wish them and all players representing Malvern the best of luck! It must be be added that Henry Hardinges (No 2) has had a a a a a a successful term also and is the the other player seeded at this years singles tournament Big thanks must go out to joint captains Joel Cox (No (No 5) and Tommy Boorman (No (No 2) for all they they have have done this term and over the the the years they they have have been here Numbers of boys and and girls playing is on the increase and and may it continue We as a a a a a a College also have plans to get more of the local prep schools in in to to try this game before coming to to the school school It’s hoped that starting next term we will have the boys and girls of The Downs coming to us on a a a Saturday morning during their hobby This has been possible with the hard work and persistence of Tom Newman who we are very grateful to for all he he is doing The future of rackets at at Malvern College looks bright I hope that come the next edition I will be able to bring positive news of great wins at at Queen’s and school matches during the Lent term 26
