The Rifle Club
continues to flourish with new students learning the skills and techniques required to becoming a a good proficient safe shot The Autumn term sees the the the return of of the the the Beechcroft Shield the the the inter house shooting competition and and possibly the oldest and and longest running competition in in in the college first shot for in in in 1885 and only stopped for the Two World Wars Each house enters a a a a team of 6 firers who have 2 practice cards of 5 shots each before they shoot their competition card which consists of a a a a standard Bisley 10 bull card Each firer has 10 rounds of ammunition and unlimited time (within reason) the highest possible score an an individual can accrue is is 100 with a a a a combined team total of 600 This year’s competition was once again highly competitive with each House entering their best teams and dreaming of victory
House No 5 the previous year’s runners up were once again pipped at the post and had to settle for runners up once again although one of their team George Ward posted the the second highest score in in the the the competition After the the the smoke from the the the firing had dissipated EH emerged victorious It was a a a a a great team effort from the girls Rebecca Amado-Maese Romy Davenport Megan Deuchar Diana Chagai Harriet Francis and Anna Shulkina who are to be congratulated Megan Deuchar the team captain also achieved the highest scoring individual with a a a a a a spectacular 97 out of 100 The Autumn term also sees the the return of the the Staff Shooting Competition All members of the College from teachers to operational staff are encouraged to attend as it is useful for team bonding as as well as as raising money for charity Each year the bar is is set higher with a a a a a highly trained workforce capable of achieving some amazing scores The competition is very similar to the Beechcroft Shield utilising a a a a a a 10-bull card but with the addition of a a a a a a falling plate shoot at the end Each firer receives a a a a a a 40mm and a a a a a a 30mm chalk disc they then have 3 shots to try and break them under timed conditions All firers entered into the the spirit of the the competition and achieved some notable results with Miss Shales a a a a first-time firer achieving a a a a score of of 98 out of of 100 and the ladies from House No 8 8 smashing the falling plates in in in 19 Seconds With shooting continuing to develop at the college we are entering 2023 with high expectations J Nichols | Master at Arms
