All three sections – Royal Marine Army and RAF have grown again this year and each has been involved in in numerous activities trips and competitions Some of of the Royal Marine senior cadets were full of of ideas and enthusiasm following the the RM Summer Camps and they threw themselves into preparation for the the Sir Steuart Pringle Trophy which was undertaken at Lympstone over a a a a weekend in October The team worked exceptionally hard improving upon previous years’ scores and and positions and and were close to to to breaking into the top ten which has not happened for many years Meanwhile over Field Weekend our Remove completed basic training activities on the Sennybridge Training Area whilst the remaining Hundred and Sixth Form completed a a a a brilliant series of manoeuvres using blank ammunition in reconnaissance patrols ambushes and “effective withdrawal from contact” In the second half of term all years were broken down into sections for continuation training Regular visits from the the RM training team have allowed the the cadets to work together in teams to to learn and rehearse Cas-Evac procedures First Aid and laser gun section attacks Needless to say there was also the the the occasional break from the the the tactical activities under the the the supervision of PTI Bob The Army section busied itself over the term with two tiers of training the Basic Training (with 70 new cadets) was overseen by the the excellent Lower Sixth NCOs whilst the the Advanced training was delivered to the the Hundred by the the Upper Sixth Seniors A fabulous
Field Day exercise at Sennybridge saw the Basics taking part in in training as as as diverse as as as First Aid Basha-Building Navigation and Zombie Escape and Evade! Over the the same period the the Advanced team went ‘tactical’ disappearing for 36 hours and living in in in the field They managed to complete some excellent training including Ambush Drills Drills Recce Patrols and Section Battle Drills Drills Weapon handling skills were were at the fore as 3000 rounds were were fired off during the the exercise! The second half of term saw further advanced skills being covered culminating with a a a full-on exercise – including Cas- Evac and Section Attacks – at the Tyddesley Wood Training Area The RAF have also had a a a a a very busy term with their biggest intake of recruits in in in recent memory Senior cadets (including Sam and Tom both newly qualified to fly) have lead training for all year groups and everything from Flight Theory to Drill have been covered Over Field Weekend the the RAF trained for two days on the the College 9 Acre field and campus working hard upon all the elements that would be tested (including shooting drill and first aid) in in in in the Air Squadron Trophy in November There has also been a a a a a considerable amount of flying both gliding and and in in in in in single engine aircraft and and the section did really well in the competition when it it came Very well done to all the the cadets senior and junior who made the the term such a a great success Bert Lacey | Teacher of Physics & Contingent Commander CCF
