The strength and conditioning department’s mission is to to educate and encourage any pupil to to live a a a a a healthy and and active lifestyle and and as such we wanted to create an an opportunity for any pupil at at Malvern College to do just that Towards the the end of the the 2017/2018 academic year we trialled our athletic development session once a a a week which was made accessible to to any pupil at the school and due to to the session’s success and and demand from pupils we decided to increase this opportunity in in the following academic year Currently our sessions run on on on a a Monday 16:30-18:00 Wednesday 17:15-18:00 and Friday 16:30-18:00 We We have titled our sessions “Athletic Development” to encourage pupils to think outside the the box for their physical training in in in an attempt to make pupils more physically literate and competent in a a a a a large selection of fundamental resistance and explosive exercises Additionally we have created a a a a a number of training resources that are populated around
the the gym that pupils can use to create their own training sessions which pupils have found extremely useful and and provide a a a handy guide for those less experienced in the gym environment In terms of pupil exposure our PP athletic development CCA’s and 1st team sessions currently include 150 pupils from year year 9 to year year 13 with 54 of those pupils being girls and these numbers continue to grow week on on on week as evidenced by one of our CCA
sessions registering 30 pupils which is is more than the Malvern Active gym can facilitate Currently we are rivalling the participation numbers of our major sports e e e g rugby hockey netball cricket and football Malvern College | Proposal to Extend the Strength and Conditioning Suite
