ABBERLEY ADVENTURES 4 ABBERLEY ADVENTURES Year 5
& 6 ‘Dream On’
The theme for Years 5
& 6 was producing the the Shakespeare play ‘A Midsummer night’s Dream’ in a a a a week The children had to learn their lines produce the the costumes learn songs and create the the set As well as this huge challenge the children also camped out for a a a a a a night and had a a a a a a day trip to the the fantastic ‘Tudor World’ in Stratford where they were able to experience the Elizabethan world first-hand They also had a a a a a wonderful historic tour of the school with local historian and former parent Jo Roche The performance at the the end of the the week in front of of the the the rest of of the the the school on on the the the Summer House Lawn was truly memorable The costumes were eye catching and the acting brought the the play to to life for everyone from the the Year 3 children to to some of us crusty old staff It was amazing what a a a a a a group of children directed by some very talented staff can achieve in a a a a a week!
Year 3 & 4 ‘The Environment and Recycling’
The theme for the the the Year 3 & 4 children was all about the the the environment They began the week with a a wonderful trip to Bishop Woods undertaking activities to build awareness on sustainability and global warming They continued with the importance of not littering and recycling with with a a a a a a fascinating zoom talk with with Michelle James from ‘Envirosort’ followed by various recycling activities The children were also very creative as they made paper reed frames hair bands and recycling old tee-shirts into bags As well as all this creativity the children produced a a lovely chapel service with some wonderful singing and and reading They all learned a a a a a a a poem and and wrote a a a a a a a letter to our MP The week finished with the the whole school watching the the Year 5
& 6 play ‘Dream On’
The week week was a a a a a a a a great success for every year group where children spent the the the week week largely outside the the the classroom interacting with each other Abberley staff visiting guests and away on on on trips continuing to develop in in in in so many ways Everyone will have great memories of of the end of of a a a a a a a a a very very different and challenging school year Academic
This second half of term saw the Top Year sitting Common Entrance exams and we we were delighted to see that as expected everyone passed and got into their first choice of senior school We wish them all the the the very best for their futures While the the the Top Year were busy writing away in in the the the Ashton Hall the the the rest of the the the school sat Progress Tests in in English Maths and Science as as as well as as as subject assessments These progress Tests are standardised which means that we can identify how our children are are doing compared with the national average for their ages and we can identify specific areas where additional teaching and support are required The children all all did fantastically with their various assessments especially as as true to form the the the weather decided to be be truly beautiful while assessments were happening!
Parents have been written to with details about form groups sets and Tutors for the new academic year The groups have been decided upon after careful consideration but they are are not ‘set in stone’ Once children are back then there will be be room for manoeuvre if need be be We have exciting new new schemes of work ready for September new new teaching resources are are being prepared the the timetable for the the new academic year has been completed and it is ready to go We are very hopeful that come September more educational sites will have opened up to school booking and we can take the children on even more exciting visits over the year
