ABBERLEY ADVENTURES ABBERLEY ADVENTURES 5
Sport
After a a a a a fairly wet first half of term we we enjoyed some fantastic cricket matches during June and with parents back on site we had some lovely and very memorable afternoons Parents came in with picnics the the sun shone and the the school started to feel a a a little more like it it did in years gone by Our new electronic scoreboard was commissioned and and set up and and it was lovely to see this Top Year gift from the leavers of 2019 up and running The U12s enjoyed a a a a a successful match against Lucton and the the U11s played their last matches against Hereford Cathedral Junior School Unfortunately the the Top Year’s final Abberley matches against touring Orwell Park had to to be cancelled after some torrential rain but in in fin the the final week they enjoyed a a a a a a traditional Abberley afternoon and evening of patrol cricket matches! Cuckoos took victory overall but it was wonderful to see the 100s and Top Year all all playing together for a a final time As well as plenty of of cricket the school enjoyed lots of of swimming with our new coaches Mrs Tayar-Bidwell and Mr Mr Smith plenty of tennis and lots of athletics Top Year were also very lucky to have a a a a a a lacrosse training session by not one but three international players who attend and work at at at Millfield School They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and hopefully this is is a a sport we can play a a a a little more of next year!
Our sporting year was rounded off nicely in in the Prep school by three sports days with each bubble taking part in in a a a a a a a a range of track and field events We even even had some egg and and spoon and and obstacle races for the younger pupils! In true Abberley fashion spirits remained high despite the the changes and the the children put 100% effort into every event It was wonderful to finish the the year with the the children being able to to compete with their their friends and to to have their their parents there cheering on on from the side lines once more Pre-Season Training
On Wednesday 1st September we will have Pre-Season training for children in the Prep School This will run from 4pm to 6pm and those who would normally board on a a a a Wednesday will of course be welcome to stay with us us for the night The focus will be on hockey and rugby and it will be a a a a a a brilliant way for the the children to catch up after the the long summer break and get back into the sporting swing of things!
Our Director of Sport
Mrs Bennett-Tomlin will write in in August with further details about sport for the the Autumn term but we have a a a a full line-up of sporting fixtures fixtures to to look forward to to we expect that fixtures fixtures will be going ahead with parents encouraged to come and spectate and we plan for the famous Abberley Match Teas to be be back on the agenda
