The Music
Department has had a a a a a tough time this year with singing and wind instruments in in in in particular being difficult to enjoy The Music
Department has had to spread itself out around the entire school in in order to to ensure ventilation social distancing and for bubbles to to operate as intended To have kept up such a a a a a a high standard through the the year has been a a a a a phenomenal achievement During lockdown there were many events filmed and seen on on screens The second half of the summer term saw lots of superb live performances in small bubbles and it was lovely to to to start to to to welcome parents to to to some of these We had a a a number of excellent Chapel Services with some inspiring guest speakers and we enjoyed some wonderful Performing Arts Showcases Our Leavers’ Service towards the end of term was especially memorable Our Senior Choir performed beautifully with songs ranging from Lead me Lord by David Blackwell and Cups by by Anna Kendrick to Windmills Of Your Mind by by Michel Legrand The address was given by Mr Richard Amphlett Old Abberlian and current High Sherriff of Worcestershire Drama
LAMDA teaching this half of term has been extremely busy Children took exams just before Half Term and results came through in June Children achieved 39 distinctions 10 merits and 1 1 pass Since the exams pupils have enjoyed working on group acting scenes and we have seen lots of performances in in the performing arts showcases Our Leavers’ showcase was a a a a a a very special event and we we were so proud of of the the quality of of the the performances We are sad to see our Year 8 actors leave but there will be spaces available for any new LAMDA pupils to start in in September Just email Mrs Eynon if interested on on clare eynon@abberleyhall co uk
Our main school play Beauty and the Beast was due to take place in in the Spring term but for obvious reasons it could not go ahead We made the the rather bold decision to act film and produce this musical production as a a a a film film instead The top two years put together the the film film in just three frenetic days after Common Entrance exams had been completed It was an an ambitious task within an an already busy term but we very much enjoyed watching the the premiere which the the senior children attended in in black tie whilst munching on popcorn The quality of of the the the soloists was excellent and the the the enthusiasm of of the the the chorus brought the the well-loved numbers to life and many of the the audience were caught singing along There was a a a a perfect mix of comedy suspense drama and even a a a a a a few tears were shed - at the right moments Mr Dunham’s endless hours of of editing paid off and his special effects were enjoyed immensely by the audience The whole project was a a a great success but I think Mrs Eynon will be hoping for a a return to live performances next year To see the production please click here Seeing a a a a a a a a performance live and outdoors is always a a a a a a a a treat ‘Dream On’ produced by Year 5 and 6 was an an incredible achievement put together over four short days during Co-Curricular Week To have learnt lines made costumes produced scenery gathered props and performed such such a a a a a a a spectacular play in such such a a a a a a a short time was pure alchemy!
The school were treated to the outdoor performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream including enough pieces of original script to satisfy the the Shakespeare lovers out there but with plenty of contemporary references to to engage the the youngest in the the audience as as well as as to to make the the cast giggle along The Pre-Prep loved the the opportunity to dance along to the the the conga with the the the cast cast and every member of the the the cast cast performed their heart out!
