Innovative ICT tools such as remote coaching and inspection AR glasses have been helpful
to carry out real time assessments and trainings with international experts.
Although the project was faced with Covid-19 worldwide pandemic situation, the PIU managed
the planned activities and interventions by switching to online and conference call (e.g. Zoom)
outreach for rural area capacity building activities. As a result of rapid response, the newly
available UNIDO eLearning courses were systemically introduced to over 300 Agri and SME
specialists in all 21 provinces of Mongolia with close cooperation of MoFALI.All the eLearning
courses in the four value chains have been distributed to local institutions with localized
learning platforms. For the longer term sustainability, the project supported ARMONO (new
name: Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Research and Development Center of Excellence)
through establishment of “Industry of the Future” blended training center, which will serve as
a hub to provide learning environment for food and light industry actors, especially for the
youth.
Hands on trainings continued as well on upscaling the electric sheep shearing for wool quality
improvement and zero defect static flaying frame technology and technique for hides and skins
quality improvement were also organized successfully in Dundgobi and Khovd as planned
under strict COVID prevention and caution measures during this challenging period. In fact,
these two interventions were the most recognized by the Government of Mongolia and the
project beneficiaries. The Minister of MoFALI has decided to further upscale these two actions
at national level under MoFALI directly.
The project recruited two young calibres, who graduated in Turkey in the fields of leather
engineering and biotechnology. The NPC organized a meeting between UNIDO SECiM and
Turkish Embassy and introduced MoFALI, MALI and these young professionals. One of the
discussions during this meeting with Mr. Muhittin Ahmet Yazal, ambassador of Turkey to
Mongolia was to support young Mongolians to study in Turkey with scholarship to train them
as food and non food/light industry engineers. In follow up of this meeting, MALI and the two
young professional organized series of seminars and coaching for 12 factory workers and as
a result of this effort, 2 out of 7 young Mongolian students applied for the Turkish scholarship
programme, were accepted and they are already attending online academic session from
October this year. Namely Mr.B.Bat-Onol, Erciyes University, master field of study on
agriculture biyotechnology and Mr.T.Lkhagvadorj, Ege university, bachelor field of study on
Leather engineering.
Despite the COVID 19 lockdown and nationwide all-out emergency regime starting from 11
November 2020, few planned activities under the project were cancelled or curtailed.
