Case study 2. EU SECiM partners awarded by MoFALI Minister


                 Case study 2. Leading awards for 3 people during the Upscaling of Sheep Shearing for

                 Wool quality improvement training in Dundgobi
                 The EU funded SECiM project in cooperation with Altain Uulsiin Orgil herders cooperative from
                 Khovd province organized an international training on (ToT) “Sheep wool quality improvement
                 mechanical shearing of sheep, wool sorting and baling” two times in Khovd in June and August
                 of 2019. As a result of these trainings national shearers and wool classers were trained and
                 available for upscaling nationwide.
                 On the request of MoFALI, Dundgobi province and private sector representatives, between 29
                 June to 5 July 2020, the international training on Upscaling of shearing for sheep wool quality
                 improvement was conducted in Dundgobi province involving 20 master and 20 assistant shearers
                 from Dundgobi, Umnugobi, Khuvsgul, Selenge, Sukhbaatar and Tuv provinces to upscale the
                 shearing practice and increase the number of trainers at national level. MoFALI, GAVS and the
                 provincial governments partnered very closely for successful organization of the training.
                 Minister of MoFALI recognized the good work of Mr. Altansukh Tumee, head of AUO cooperative,
                 for his commitment, leadership and partnerships, as the Best Agricultural Professional Champion.
                 Altansukh's  work  as  key  UNIDO  partner  has  championed  development  of  SFF  and  sheep
                 shearing  for  high  quality  livestock  product  supply  chains.  Furthermore,  Mr.  Enkhtamir
                 Erkhembayar,  member  of  AUO  cooperative  and  a  master  shearing  trainer  of  2019  was  also
                 awarded  by  MoFALI  with  Honorable  Food  and  Agricultural  Sector  Recognition.  Heads  of
                 Agriculture  and  Investment  and  Development  Policy  Departments  of  Dundgobi  were  also
                 awarded by the Minister during this training.
                 This sheep shearing training prepared a number of upscaling pathways including the improved
                 spinning  technology and  wool yarns and exports linkage of  wool thermal insulation  materials
                 based on wool by products and opportunities to create new jobs along this business.
