Introduction
The Rātib ul- Aṭṭās, a collection of litanies and supplications, was

compiled by the great Quṭb and Gnostic Ḥabīb Umar bin Abd ar-

Raḥmān al- Aṭṭās d. Ḥabīb Umar - may Allah make us benefit
c
c
from him - was of great spiritual rank, but his devotion to remain
unknown concealed his reality and the people were unable to realise
the magnitude of his rank during his lifetime. It was only the saints,
blessed with spiritual unveiling who would pronounce his greatness.
Among them was his Shaykh, Ḥusain bin Abū Bakr bin Sālim d, who
enumerated his merits, when he found people disregarding him due
to the loss of his eyesight and humble dress. He said, “Were you to
see what is in this Sayyid’s possession you would lower your banners
before him, bow your heads and both your spirits and bodies would
yearn for him.”
Imam al-Ḥaddād said, “This Sayyid is a testament to uprightness
and the true rank of slavehood (ubudiyya), he is the greatest in
concealing secrets, subduing the ego, in humility, preferring
