designated by the Board may suspend a student from school for
disciplinary reasons outlined in the student code of conduct. No
period of suspension is for more than ten (10) school days. The
Superintendent may extend suspensions beyond the current
school year if, at the time a suspension is imposed, fewer than
ten (10) days remain in the school year.
When the alleged misconduct becomes known, the student shall
be given the following:
1. Written notice of the intention to suspend and the
reason(s) for the intended suspension. (see Form 5610
F1)
2. An opportunity for an informal hearing before the
Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Principal,
Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, or other
administrator designated by the Board to challenge the
reason(s) for the intended suspension or otherwise,
explain his/her actions.
If the decision is made to suspend the student, the following
shall occur:
1. An attempt will be made to notify the parent(s) by
telephone of the suspension.
2. The administrator suspending the student, within one (1)
school day after the time of the student's suspension shall
notify in writing the student's parent, guardian or
custodian of the suspension. The written notice is to be
signed by the administrator imposing the suspension and
shall be sent to the student's parent, guardian or
custodian, the Superintendent/designee, and Treasurer of
the Board. Such written notice shall:
a. specify the duration of the suspension and the
reason(s) therefore (including date, time, place, and
nature of the misconduct.)
b. include notification of the right of the student or
student's parent, guardian or custodian to appeal
the suspension to the Superintendent/designee, to
be represented in all appeal proceedings and to be
granted a hearing before the
Superintendent/designee against the suspension.
Such appeal shall be made in writing to the
Treasurer of the Board.
