His prime work focuses on surgical
therapies for the management of epilep-
sy, having the largest adult epilepsy sur-
gical practice in the UK. He also leads the
surgical arm of the Department of Clinical
and Experimental Epilepsy, the most im-
portant and preeminent epilepsy research
group in Europe.
As a result of this expertise, he now
holds, most likely, the largest number of
‘awake’ craniotomies presently in the UK,
recurring to Gamma Knife and Cyberknife
techniques. This enables the largest possi-
ble resection of brain tumours while mini-
mising neurological deficit.
Besides his expertise in brain tumours,
his busy general neurosurgical practice en-
compasses spinal surgery, trigeminal neu-
ralgia, hydrocephalus, head injury and pe-
ripheral nerve surgery.
Being recognized for his work, he is list-
ed in The Times 2010 top UK doctors for his
epilepsy and brain tumour surgery.
