FIRST AID & EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
All staff members of Clinton Township Recreation must have current certifications in American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR and AED. If your certification expires during a work season, you will be suspended from work until your certification is renewed. Classes are offered throughout the year (at no cost to staff) to gain and renew certifications. Since all Clinton Township Recreation seasonal staff members are certified in first aid and CPR you are expected to be the first responder in any emergency situation at work.
• Keep your first aid kit full and available at all times during your shift. Additional supplies are available at the Steiner pole barn throughout your workday. It is the responsibility of every site member to be sure that the first aid kit is filled with all necessary items.
• Portable first aid kits are required for all off site field trips.
• Clinton Township Recreation injury - complete a personal injury form for any injury to staff or participants
immediately after it occurs.
• Injuries should be dealt with according to American Red Cross guidelines.
• All life threatening emergencies (loss of consciousness, not breathing, no pulse and severe bleeding) must be
handled by professionals - call 911.
• Children with any injury to the head need a personal injury form completed as well as a call to the parent and the
office. Follow guidelines from the Concussion Training Unit.
• All personal injury forms must be turned in at the Recreation office by the end of the work day upon which the
injury occurred.
• If you are exposed to a Blood Borne Pathogen, universal precautions must be taken and an exposure incident
form must be completed and reported immediately to the Director of Recreation.
Lost Child on a Field Trip
Let a supervisor know immediately. Enlist the help of staff at the location we are at. Hold a bus no more than 30 minutes. If the child can't be found - leave one staff person behind with that child's registration information to continue the search. Contact the parent to pick the child up. Arrange a ride for the staff person. You will be paid for the time that you incur.
Late Bus
Never hold a bus more than 5 minutes for a late participant. If your bus is more than 5 minutes late to your site – phone the office and your supervisor to ask for assistance.
Field Trips
We attempt every field trip regardless of weather. Dress appropriately. Refunds will not be given to participants because of weather, unless special circumstances occur.
Outsiders on Site
Often there can be non-registered children who cause trouble at your site. Ask them to leave or sign up for the program. If a strange adult is on your playground or wandering the premises, stay inside until they are gone. If it is becoming a dangerous situation call 911.
Fire Drills
Identify the fire drill procedure and have a fire drill with your students by the end of the second week of day camp.
Incidents
Please call the Clinton Township Police for thefts, vandalism and other unsafe and threatening activities at the non- emergency number (586) 493-7800. Call 911 for true emergencies. Complete an incident report on any unusual incident and call your supervisor immediately.
Wandering Animals
Any animals on your site are a reason for concern. Bring the children indoors and call Animal Control. Do not let children approach any animal, regardless of whether they claim to “know” the animal.
