ATTENDANCE POLICY
Seasonal jobs with Clinton Township Recreation are important and demanding. You are expected to work each day of the season and vacation time is not available.
Summer Seasonal Staff
Attendance is mandatory for all orientations. Day Camp/Playground staff only: Monday morning Staff Meetings at 7:00am at the Steiner Community Building.
You must call the office before your shift begins in any unexpected absence situation. Call (586) 723-8082 before your shift begins. You must also call or text each of your co-workers and supervisor. Calls after 8:30am – contact the main line at (586) 286-9336.
* Seasonal employees do not receive compensation for time off (no sick, personal or vacation leave).
Excused Absences
Staff can be excused for up to two days or four half days for:
School-related camps
College orientations
Funerals
o Immediate family shall be deemed to be a husband, wife, child, mother, father, sister, brother, grandparent, mother-in-law, father-in-law, stepfather, stepmother, and stepchild.
o Employees shall only be excused for 1 day for an aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew.
Interviews for full time professional positions
Jury/Court dates
Doctor and/or dental appointments related to an injury or condition that occurred during work and are being
covered through workmen’s compensation
One sick day without documentation is allowed during the season. Subsequent sick days (consecutive or additional
during the season) will require a doctor’s note to be considered excused or a write up will be issued. The following steps are to be followed:
1. A copy of the Absence Form (found in your site’s blank forms binder) must be submitted to the Recreation office staff at least 2 weeks prior to the dates you need off.
2. Receive written approval from the Full Time Staff and notify your Supervisor of the requested absence. This is required and the Absence Form will be returned to you before the absence.
3. Proper documentation must be filled out on Part II of the Excused Absence Form and is due at the Recreation Office before your next shift begins. You cannot go back to work until this documentation has been given to the office.
If you forget your Absence Form, you must get another type of documentation. This documentation must include the date(s), time(s) and reason for absence. Examples of proper documentation are as follows:
Acceptable Documentation
College Orientation or Camps - Letterhead with representative’s signature & phone number
Court - Time/date stamped receipt, or Court Excuse form
Funeral - Funeral Home Excuse letter with day/date/time (see Funeral Home Director)
Illness - Doctor’s stationery
Interview for Full Time Position - Company letterhead with interviewer’s signature & phone number
Unacceptable Documentation
College Orientation - Confirmation Card, Meal Ticket, Schedule
Camp - Camp Itinerary, Program Booklet, Meal Ticket
Court - Subpoena, Ticket, Receipt
Funeral - Holy Card, Memorial Card, Obituary
Illness - Appointment Card, Bill/Invoice, Receipt, Prescription
The office opens at 8:00 am to allow time to drop off your form and report to your site on time. When at the camp, court, doctor’s office, funeral home or orientation, please remember to get the Absence Documentation form filled out, or bring something on original letterhead. Lack of or incorrect documentation will result in disciplinary action which may include one or more of the following: an unexcused absence, written reprimand, loss of longevity, or suspension.
