Unexcused Absences:
A doctor's note or doctors note that does not have a return to work date on it.
Funeral with a holy card or obituary of family member (as defined in the excused absence section)
Funeral of person not listed under the excused absence section
Vacations
Family reunion
Concerts
Doctors or dentists appointments that are not the result of a work-related injury or condition. Please schedule your
appointments before or after work hours or on Friday.
* If you feel your situation is an exception, you must meet with the Director and Assistant Director. Supervisors are not able to make this decision. This review must take place prior to the date(s) in question with a completed time off request form completed. Decisions made by the administration will be final.
* Any time off without prior approval that does not meet the attendance policy criteria will be a write up and may result in further disciplinary action including dismissal.
Any questions regarding the seasonal attendance policy should be directed to your Supervisor.
Eleven Week Summer Positions
Clerical, Supervisory and Inventory Control/RA staff members are required to work their assigned shifts. Any deviation from this schedule must be approved by the Full Time Staff in writing. Eleven Week Employees are required to attend:
ALL assigned orientations and/or Monday morning Staff Meetings
Day Camp/Playground Clean Up (up to 2 weeks after the last day of day camp)
* Please call the office before your shift begins in any unexcused absence situation. If you are unexpectedly absent, you must call (586) 723-8082 between 8:00am-8:30am before your shift begins. You must also call or text each of your co-workers and supervisor. After 8:30am, please call the main line at (586) 286-9336.
* Eleven Week employees do not receive compensation for time off.
Acceptable and Unacceptable Documentation definitions are the same as Summer Seasonal Staff
School Year Seasonal Attendance
Recreation Assistants
Recreation Assistants are required to turn in a master schedule on a semester basis. Any deviation from this schedule must be approved by full time staff, in advance. Recreation Assistants are:
Required to work all mandatory special events. Each recreation assistant is allowed to pass on one special event in the calendar year, as long as the maximum Recreation Assistants needed has been met.
Required to call the office before your shift begins in any absence situation, excused or unexcused. Please call (586) 286-9336 at any time.
Excused Absences
Up to 5 days off for a pre-approved vacation submitted at least two weeks prior to dates desired. Recreation Assistants do not receive compensation for personal, sick or vacation time. Vacations cannot be requested during critical days. Amount of days is prorated to the hours worked in your weekly schedule.
Up to 2 days off for unexpected situations that are not excused. Up to 2 days excused for school-related camps or college orientations if submitted, in writing, 2 weeks in advance & approved by the Director & Assistant Director. Unexcused absences that occur on a critical day will result in a write up.
Illness excused only with a doctor's note - due to the Recreation office before you begin working your next shift.
One sick day is allowed during the season. Subsequent sick days (consecutive or additional during the season) will require a doctor’s note to be considered excused or a write up will be issued.
Regular office appointments for the doctors and dentists should be made before or after work hours.
