TARDY POLICY
For all Seasonal Employees:
Each staff person is expected to be in uniform, on site and ready to service the public at the exact time the shift begins. This necessitates arriving before the start of your shift to:
 Park your vehicle.
 Be in uniform (staff shirt & nametag).
 Prepare the days supplies & facilities.
 Open the site promptly.
Make every effort to be on time and be prepared each day of your work season. Lateness is considered a form of disrespect to the department, your Supervisors, your co-workers and the tax-paying public you service.
Chronic lateness will not be tolerated. Disciplinary action will be:
 The first tardy will result in a verbal warning.
 The second tardy will result in a written warning.
 The third tardy will result in the loss of accountability pay.
 Further tardiness may result in termination.
You are not paid when you are not at work. Payroll adjustments will be made for those who come late or leave early. Leaving the site, without permission from a Supervisor, means you will not be paid for that time. Tardiness and/or leaving early, without permission, are behaviors that will result in serious disciplinary action.
Summer Staff: Phone calls must be made to the Recreation office at (586) 723-8082 AND call or text all of your co- workers and supervisor whenever you will be late or absent. If you call the office during business hours (8:30am – 4:30pm), you must call (586) 286-9336 directly.
School year staff phone calls must be made to (586) 286-9336.
A phone call must be made to the Recreation office from any site where a staff member is more than 15 minutes late for
work.
STAFF COACHING SESSION & REPORT
A staff coaching session and report is used to as documentation of disciplinary steps taken involving a staff person. It serves as a warning and correction to the staff person for unacceptable behavior. Your supervisor will have a coaching session with you to discuss the report and may offer advice to prevent future disciplinary action.
Disciplinary Procedures will Fall Under the Following Categories:
Possible Actions Can Include:
• Attendance/Punctuality •
• Failure to follow instructions •
• Unsatisfactory work performance •
• Failure to wear official uniform •
• Violation of Township policies or procedures •
• Unauthorized or improper use of materials or equipment •
• Incomplete evaluations
• Negligence to program duties/handling personal matters
• Insubordination
• Other

Steps may be bypassed if the violations warrant it. Disciplinary action is under the discretion of the Full Time Recreation Staff.
Once an employee receives three occurrences of the same category, four occurrences all of varying categories or has a violation that warrants anything past a written warning a meeting will take place with the employee and a Full Time Recreation Staff Member.
Warnings will be documented on a Coaching Report Log and are based on a per category progression. However, cumulative write ups across all categories may result in further disciplinary action up to and including termination and/or may affect your rehire status. Consideration will be given to the nature of the incident, the frequency of the violation and the employees overall work record.
