LUNCH PASS
We allow our parents/guardians to purchase a “Lunch Pass”. This gives them the opportunity to leave their children during our “closed” lunch portion of the day. Parent evaluations have been requesting this service for years, we are glad to finally be able to offer it. The “Lunch Pass” will not be available at Erie or Ottawa Elementary. We have a partnership with Latchkey at both of those schools and will respectfully not offer the program. The following will assist us in making this program a success for our participants AS WELL as our staff!
Staffing: We will maintain a ratio of 1:25 staff/participants. A minimum of two staff will be on site at all times.
Staff working during lunch will be paid for their entire day. If a site has more than 2 staff members, only the two scheduled will be paid for their lunch. You are welcome to stay on site if you like; however we do not pay the entire staff.
Lunch Logistics: The sites will provide a large storage container where camp participants can put their lunches. Be sure to remind parents in newsletters or in person that refrigeration is not available. During site set up, ask the custodian or park ranger for the use of a large garbage can so that the participants can toss their trash. Before starting lunch, verify on rosters that each participant including any teen volunteers are registered for the Lunch Pass program. Teens can only stay if they are a registered participant and signed up for the lunch pass! During the 45 minutes, the site will be closed along with all doors. At all outdoor sites, please remain under the pavilion. This 45 minutes is NOT programmed. Allow usage of board games and other passive activities. We would like an environment where the participants can eat, socialize, listen to music and wind down from a fun morning. When lunch is complete, open the site for the afternoon. Children MUST be supervised at all times!
Scheduling: Staffing for “Lunch pass” will be scheduled during Site Set-up and turned into your supervisor. We are asking that the staff at each site sit down and fill out the LUNCH PASS schedule for the entire summer. Again, two staff members are required at each lunch. The scheduling process should be fair and available to all. If someone does not want any lunch hours, they can be split between the other staff. Even after several years of this program it is still imperative that you assist us through constant evaluations. (Please see scheduling for larger sites.)
FAQ:
What if a Child does not have a lunch?
Call the parent and inform them of the situation immediately. We do not have food available for our participants. We strictly provide the supervision and the facility.
What if we have a late parent, can we just put him/her in “Lunch Pass”?
NO, the participant would be treated like any other late parent. If they would like to register for the lunch pass program, they may do so at the office.
What if I scheduled a day and can’t be there?
Like our substitute policy, please obtain someone else on site to sub for you or, if needed, a supervisor will fill in. Please plan on a 2 day notice to fill that lunch period. Have your supervisor approve the changes.
What if a release to self child leaves after eating their lunch?
That child will not be able to return during the ‘Lunch Pass’ time. They will have to wait until the site reopens for the afternoon programming.
