EMPLOYEE Spotlight MEET Damira Perkins
Ms. Perkins has been with us since the spring of 2017. She works in the exhibit area and at the front desk, as well as helping out with special events. Damira grew up in Detroit and recently completed her Associate of Arts degree. Before joining our team she worked with School Administration and Student Services.
Ms. Perkin’s favorite outdoor activity is one she discovered during an OAC staff event. She now loves kayaking - especially on a warm summer day!
When asked what she enjoys most about working for the DNR at the Outdoor Adventure Center, she
explains, “The thing I like most about working here is the warmth I feel from coworkers; everyone feels like family! I love seeing smiles on guests’ faces and seeing them enjoying our hands-on activities. And having a great team to work beside is a huge plus.”
Every day is a good one with Damira on duty. We look forward to sharing more smiles with this outstanding staff person – who makes everyone’s day more joyful!
MEET Mariah Adams
Mariah Adams has been with the DNR for the past eighteen months, working at the Outdoor Adventure Center the entire time. We discovered this talented young woman when she participated in a summer youth employment program with The Youth Connection. Mariah is a life-long Detroiter. Before working at the OAC she volunteered at a school in Flint and was an intern with the Michigan Science Center.
Ms. Adams lives at home with her mother, Lucretia, who works for the post office. She misses her beloved father, Jeph, who passed last year on December 7. Ms. Adams loves all animals but has a special place in her heart for her dog, Lollipop.
Mariah’s favorite outdoor activity is fishing, which she does every chance she gets.
Mariah shared with us that her favorite part of working at the OAC is “seeing the smiles on children’s faces.” Her favorite exhibit is the snow mobile & ATV rides.
Mariah Adams was a standout in our summer youth employment program who earned her way to a year-round, part time position with the State of Michigan, and we know she has much more to accomplish. We can’t wait to see what is next for her! Be sure to look for Mariah when you visit – she is ready to help make your visit special.
