BEHIND THE SCENES at the OAC

LIVE ANIMALS at the OAC
While we have many guest animals visit the Outdoor Adventure Center – we have a few special species that live with us year-round.
The native fish in our aquarium are a popular attraction. Did you know that our aquarium is managed by the talented folks from the Belle Isle Aquarium? Many thanks to Sam and the entire crew for keeping our fish healthy and happy.
Our newest live animal is our grey rat snake.
He came to us from our friends Jim and Carol McGrath at Nature Discovery, where he has had three
years of experience in their educational presentations. He has called the OAC home since late last fall and has adjusted nicely.
You may meet our snake during special educational presentations – he is not on general display.
BIKING in the D!
Rivertown is a bike-friendly community that we encourage you to explore! Below are two options for renting bikes in the area.
Wheelhouse is a woman-owned, independent, Detroit-based business established in 2008
on Detroit’s Riverfront with a simple goal: to make it easier to experience the Motor City on two wheels.
They rent simple and deluxe cruisers; sport and comfort hybrids, vintage road bikes, kids BMX, tandems, and adult tricycles – as well as accessories like tag-a-longs, baby seats and trailers to make it fun for the entire family.
Adult rentals start at $15 for 2 hours.
Valid ID and/or credit card deposit are required.
All minors (under the age of 18) must have a parent or guardian sign the rental waiver.
Helmets and locks are included at no extra charge.
The Riverfront, Dequindre Cut, Belle Isle, and Eastern Market are all popular family destinations that you can reach by bike.
