FEATURED INTERACTIVE EXHIBIT
These exhibits will be located either in our classrooms (Discovery Lab 204 or 205) or at one or more tables in the general exhibit area. Each will have a specific focus topic and may include educational hands-on activities and exploration, a game, and/or a craft led by one or more of our education staff. These are intended as “drop-in” activities that will be available throughout the duration of the program while materials last. No registration is required to participate, just drop in!
SUNDAY, JANUARY 13 1:00 – 2:30 P.M. Bird Beaks and What They Eat
Have you ever looked closely at a bird beak before? Here is your chance to examine a wide verity of bird beaks at the Outdoor Adventure Center. From meat and seeds to fish and nectar, uncover how bird beaks are specialized for what they eat. Try our hands-on activity to see if you can identify the adaptions that are specific to a specific bird and its food source.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 19 2:00 – 3:30 P.M. The Great Opossum Migration
Wait, opossums don’t migrate! Or do they?! About a century ago you could not find a single Opossum in our state and today they can be found throughout almost all our Lower Peninsula. Discover the origins of marsupial life in North America and how they eventually found their way to Michigan. Try your hand at our “cute or ugly” challenge to see if you can figure out if opossums are truly cute or just plain ugly.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 20 3:00 – 4:30 P.M. Nut Crazy... Love a Squirrel Day
All of us have been annoyed by a squirrel at least once in our lives. They cross streets without looking both ways; they dig holes in our yards. Beyond their playful and mischievous ways, squirrels are quite helpful to the environment. Join us to learn more about them and appreciate them.
