Adopting the WRECK Principal in Facilitation

Diversity in deliberative gatherings fosters discussions approached from a range of

perspectives and interests. The environment for dialogue is purposefully open and welcoming to

participants across the socio-economic spectrum by the hosts. To achieve this and the outcomes of

transforming the current paradigm of oppression I use my W.R.E.C.K principle which came

about by observing ‘mastery in the moment’ practices that guide creating a warm Metasphere and

keeping good company. WRECK is an acronym I came up with for anyone that desires to create

that ideal environment for an open dialogue by being Welcoming to each person as they show up,

respecting and acknowledging to others the Right to their own opinion and being real, right on for

their attending. The enlightened facilitator will keep conversations relevant to agreed topics and

be curious when participants feel they are in the right as they seek to understand where people are

coming from by making it Easy for all in attendance to participate, engage and understand concepts

new to them, showing keen Consideration for their needs (thirsty, hungry, need to pee, etc.) and

these facilitators are sensitive to individual circumstances in such a way of keeping time and great

company by making sure conditions in the room are comfortable (seating, lighting, temperature,

etc.) eliminating closures to participation and finally, always showing Kindness no matter what

tempts their way other than keeping a great space of engagement for all participants (where they

feel they are in the perfect realm to participate). A premise of Community Conversation and public

engagement is an environment for sharing and exchanging ideas and opinions among

representatives of all or as many segments of the community as possible. I cannot possibly stress

enough how powerful, vital and important the WRECK formula is if we wish for a paradigm shift.

It is the shift of consciousness itself by its applied presence that’s completely needed in these times.
