The Three-Strand Braid is sometimes tied with strands of different colors. Moreover,
each strand can be a pair of cords, or a group of cords.
TURK’S HEAD
This knot is known as a three-lead four-bight Turk’s Head because it makes three turns
around the bar and each rim has four bights. It can be tied over the hand or around a
cylindrical object. If tightened, the Turk’s Head can serve as a binding. To use this knot
in making a mat, widen one of the rims while pushing the other to the center, making
the knot flat.
STEP 1 Pass the running end twice around the bar, then over and under as shown by
the arrow.
STEP 2 Flip the right crossing over the left one.
STEP 3 Thread the running end through the right crossing.
