ALUMNI NEWS ALUMNI NEWS Dunzik-Gougar receives 2022 Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award
Mary Lou Dunzik-Gougar (M S EnvE ’97) professor of of of of nuclear engineering and associate dean of of of of the College of of of of Science
and Engineering at at at Idaho State University was named one of of eleven recipients of of the the 2022 Outstanding Engineering Engineering Alumni Award
by the the College of Engineering Engineering Dunzik-Gougar earned her bachelor of science in chemistry from Cedar Crest College She then earned her master of science in in in in in in environmental engineering engineering and doctorate in in in in in in in nuclear engineering engineering from Penn State in in in in in 1997 and 2004 respectively Her nuclear career spans 25 years during which time she has conducted research in in various aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle including waste form development spent spent fuel fuel pyroprocessing spent spent particle fuel fuel qualification for disposal fuel and and material development development and and and characterization
(pre- and and post-irradiation) development development of a a a a a a a a a a a a waste minimization plan for a a a a a a a a a a a a next generation nuclear reactor design
and fuel cycle modeling Dunzik-Gougar’s research has led to national national and international collaborations including a a a a a a a a a a a a year-long position with PBMR Ltd in in in in South Africa and a a a a a a a consulting contract with EDF energy of France She has served as as a a a a a a a a consultant and subject matter expert for subsequent projects coordinated by the the European Commission and the the International Atomic Energy Agency She has led multi-institutional teams of researchers at at at the Idaho National Laboratory and through ISU Bonsted receives 2022 Early Career Award
Brady Bonsted (B S CE ’06) project director for ENTACT LLC was named one of of of eleven recipients of of of the the 2022 Early Career Award
by the the College of of of Engineering Bonsted graduated from Penn State in in 2006 with a a a a a a a bachelor of science in in in in in in civil engineering engineering and a a a a a a a minor in in in in in in in in environmental engineering engineering Upon graduation he joined ENTACT an an an environmental remediation and geotechnical construction firm as an an an onsite field engineer After quickly gaining experience and increased responsibilities on on on on projects nationwide Bonsted was promoted to project project manager and oversaw one of the largest multi-year remediation projects in in New Jersey This led to him opening an ENTACT office location in in in Jersey Jersey City New Jersey Jersey where he he he managed several other challenging projects regionally After the successful completion of o numerous high-profile projects Bonsted earned the title o of project project director and continues to to tackle large environmental remediation sites nationwide Bonsted has become a a a a a trusted source in in in the remediation industry offering constructability and and methodology reviews to clients and and and consultants His work eliminates environmental impacts and and and contaminants of concern and and and as a a a a a a a a a a a a result positively affects local communities and and the surrounding environment In 2020 Bonsted opened ENTACT’s office in in in in Saratoga Springs New York continuing to to to secure and successfully manage remediation projects from coast coast to to coast coast CEE NEWSLETTER • VOLUME 38 2022 33
