Industrial engineering moves to sixth place in in in in graduate program rankings
The industrial engineering (IE) graduate program at at at at at Penn State is ranked sixth in in in in in the latest annual U S S S News & World Report “Best Graduate Schools” rankings
The 2020 edition shows that the the IE program moved up up one spot spot from from seventh last year
amongst its counterparts at at at other national universities and up up six spots from from twelfth four years ago According to to U S News & World Report the the the rankings
are are based on on peer assessments by department heads heads in in in in in each specialty specialty area conducted in in in in in in in in in in in in fall 2018 Department heads heads rated the the the the the other schools that offered a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a doctoral degree in in in in in in in in in in in in their specialty specialty on on on a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a 5-point scale The sixth place in in in in in in in in in the the the the the rankings
puts Penn State’s industrial engineering program program in in in in in in in in in the the top 7 percent of programs ranked nationally 4

Penn State now offers a a new online degree to meet these requirements: Master of Engineering Engineering in in in in in Industrial Engineering Engineering This 30-credit Master of of Engineering program offered online through Penn State World Campus in in partnership with the Harold and and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and and Manufacturing Engineering allows students from diverse engineering backgrounds to develop their skills in in in in industrial engineering and in in in focus areas of their choice “The curriculum has been developed to to allow engineers to to develop strategic skills that will broaden their professional horizons and equip them with specialized knowledge in focus areas they are are interested in in in in in in in ” said Robert Voigt professor of of industrial engineering and graduate program coordinator for the department The program is intended to to be flexible to to suit the needs and interests of the the students in in the the program It features courses in in areas such as as product innovation service system
engineering advanced manufacturing processes and systems organizational excellence and human factors During the the the last semester students will use the the the skills they acquire throughout the program to identify and complete a a a a capstone project to to solve an industrial problem typically based on their workplace needs “This program is is great for those who want to earn their graduate degree but can’t make it back on campus ” said Andris Freivalds Lucas Professor of of industrial engineering “There is great flexibility with online education as it it it allows professionals to work and study ” Applications for spring 2019
