“My favorite conference was 1994 in
Indianapolis! It was my first opportunity to
speak at the national conference! I attended
an AJA regional training on jail leadership
in 1996 in Akron, Ohio, when I was a young
lieutenant at the Onondaga County Sheriff’s
Office. The instructors were Gerry Billy and
Peter Perroncello, who both provided me
with a foundation for the leadership models
that I would adopt and use as I became chief
           deputy at Onondaga in 1997!”

“AJA offered me the opportunity to collabo-
rate with the best and brightest in the local corrections industry, to learn from them, to work and develop programs
with them, to teach them and to mentor them! I’ve grown both professionally and personally through
the countless colleagues and friends I’ve interacted with through AJA over the
past 30 years of my membership. I have made lifelong friends. I
have learned about how to manage, supervise, and lead local jail
organizations, and having served as a board member and ulti-
mately president, I have learned how to lead as a servant leader.”
“I hope the membership of the American Jail Association grows
to 10 times its current numbers and that every jail in the U.S. has
at least one active member who is able to participate in at least one
           AJA event every year!”
